Hawkes Bay United are on the winner's sheet after keeping a clean sheet against Southern United.

United's 3-0 win over Southern at Bluewater Stadium in Napier on Sunday was their first in this 2015/16 ASB Premiership and came in their first game at home.

Despite playing into a strong wind in the first half,  United had their fair share of possession and were rewarded about 10minutes before the break when new recruit Fabien Kurimata guided the ball into the back of the net from close range after a bit of a goalmouth scramble.

In the second half, goals to striker Sam Mason Smith and attacking right back Kohei Matsumoto – his second in as many matches for his new club – assured maximum points for the homeside.

The win sees undefeated United go third in the league standings on four points after two games, after starting their season with a 1-1 draw against Auckland 10 days ago. Auckland is on top with seven points from three games, one ahead of Canterbury who have two wins from as many matches,

Hawke’s Bay United travel to take on WaiBOP United in Taupo this Thursday night at 7.35pm in a televised game on Sky Sports.
