A committee set up to provide iwi with greater say over natural resources in Hawke's Bay is being described as a tremendous step forward for race relations. A new Regional Planning Committee made up of nine regional councillors and representatives from all treaty claimant groups met for the first time yesterday. Treaty of Waitangi Negotiations Minister Christopher Finlayson says the committee is dedicated to improving iwi's representation at a local government level. |
