The Hawkes Bay Police have sent a warning to all K2 users and dealers.
The new laws prohibit anyone under 18 from possessing or using synthetic cannabis, plus it's also illegal to sell it to anyone under 18.
If you get caught with it in your possession, you could end up with a $500 fine.
If retailers get caught selling it to under-18s, they face a possible three-month jail term and a fine.
It's also illegal to buy it for anyone under 18.
Police will be visiting shops that are selling legal synthetic cannabis to make sure they are complying with the law.
And if you're under 18 and get caught with it on you, expect to end up with a fine and a conviction.
