Wool, sheep, dogs, shearing and all associated history comes to life in this working museum. Sheep, lambs and cows are trucked in daily.
A two-stand woolshed built at Stoney Brooke farm at Maraekakaho in 1886 has been reassembled, complete with original totara counting-out pens and ancient shearing equipment including a hand winder for power generation.
Wool World celebrates the contribution sheep farming has made to New Zealand and captures the history of some of the region’s major sheep stations.
It is a 10-year dream come true for Ian Richardson, a farmer, shearing contractor and inventor of an award-winning mobile shearing shed design.
Wool World is a live and working museum of the wool industry.
There will be shearing displays, with plenty of audience participation, twice a day and plenty of other activities for young and old.
