UnisonFibre has stepped into the fast lane as naming sponsors of the Hawke’s Bay Sports Awards.

Unison Networks chief executive Ken Sutherland announced today that UnisonFibre has come on board as lead sponsor  of the showcase event on the Hawke’s Bay sports calendar.

UnisonFibre is part of the Unison Network group of companies and is developing an ultrafast fibre optic broadband network throughout Hawke’s Bay. The 44km route goes past the awards venue – the Pettigrew.Green Arena in Taradale.

Along with a new sponsor the awards has a new date of Saturday 29 May.

Sport Hawke’s Bay commercial manager Kevin Murphy said UnisonFibre’s two-year commitment was a major boost for the awards.

“We’re thrilled to have UnisonFibre come on board as the major sponsor and also sponsor of the Services to Sport category.

Both Unison Networks  and UnisonFibre are committed to the sports community in a wide range of ways including the sponsorship of Hawke’s Bay Rugby , the Unison Hawke’s Bay Sports Hall of Fame and the proposed Velodrome at the Regional Sports Park, so this is a natural fit,” Kevin says.

Mr Sutherland said UnisonFibre is pleased to partner with Sport Hawke’s Bay to celebrate our local champions.

“The dedication and determination of the successful sportspeople and rising stars of Hawke’s Bay is indeed worth recognising.

“The need for speed, agility and performance coupled with a winning attitude are qualities that UnisonFibre absolutely believes in. Such synergies with our company are the very reasons we have chosen to be major sponsors,” Mr Sutherland said.

Nominations for all categories closes at the end of March and for the first time will take in a full winter and summer sport season. In the past performances in the summer sport codes were judged on the previous season.

The categories include including Junior Sportsperson, Senior Sportsperson, Masters Sportsperson, Coach, Administrator/Manager, and Official.  Other awards include Junior Team, Senior Team, Club Operation, Club Performance, and Service to Sport.

The prestigious position of Sportsperson of the Year is selected from the winners of the Junior Sportsperson, Senior Sportsperson, Masters Sportsperson, Junior Team and Senior Team awards.

The latest Unison Hawke’s Bay Hall of Fame recipients will be announced by the end of April.

Kevin says the aim is to now get stronger support from the business community for the awards.

“We want to get more businesses attending the awards and seeing the valuable contribution sports makes to the community.
